Foods That Impair Memory And Intelligence

Foods that contain too many calories have a negative effect on molecules that are associated with memory and learning.

Daily, we consume vitamins because they are part of our diet. While some foods can boost our brains, there are foods that affect our memory as well as our intelligence.

Indeed, according to various studies, a vitamin B deficiency can, for example, have harmful consequences on our brain. This deficiency would lead to a reduction in our capacities.

It is therefore necessary to know which foods to avoid so as not to suffer from these problems.

Foods that affect memory

Several foods damage our brains. Many studies speak of it. These foods can be grouped into five major distinct types.

To avoid these consequences, we recommend avoiding:

  • Sugars:  Some people consume a lot of sweets: they therefore have excess sugar in the blood. According to the University of Berlin, these people are more likely to suffer from memory problems.
  • Junk Food: Research from the University of California shows that fast food is really not good for our brains.
This is because this type of food is loaded with calories and saturated or processed fats, which are bad for the brain’s synapses. They also act negatively on molecules linked to memory and learning.

  • Red meat: Consumption of red meat damages memory. A Boston study showed that people who eat a lot of beef have lower cognitive function than people who are vegetarians, for example.
  • Simple carbohydrates: This food group includes non-skimmed milk, flour and refined sugars. They can cause memory problems, especially in patients with type 2 diabetes. They also reduce academic performance.
  • Fructose: It is present in all processed foods. It is also found in foods to which corn syrup is added (sodas, sweet juices, canned fruit). It causes sluggishness in the brain and causes memory problems.

Foods that harm intelligence

The five groups mentioned above are not the only harmful foods. Indeed, there are other foods that can also harm the development of our brain and our intelligence.

They are therefore absolutely not recommended for children, mainly. But be careful, they should also be avoided in adults. Indeed, these foods can greatly affect our productivity at work.

Here they are :

  • Alcohol:  In addition to damaging our liver over the long term, alcohol causes “brain fog”, that is to say, mental confusion.
It affects our ability to think clearly in the most common moments of our daily life: we cannot remember a street or a name, or we can no longer solve simple math problems. mental.
Alcohol undoubtedly disrupts our brain. But the most serious thing is that it is irreversible.
  • Fried foods: These are all foods related to fast food, bathed in hot oil or fat. What’s more, fried foods contain chemicals, additives, artificial flavors and colors.
They influence our behavior, cause hyperactivity and destroy our cognitive functioning as well as the nerve cells of the brain.
Of all the oils used for frying, sunflower oil is the most dangerous!

Foods harmful to memory.

  • Very Salty Foods: We already know that salt is not good for blood pressure, nor for heart disease.
But you should also know that it can be harmful to the functioning of our brain. It damages our ability to think and reason.
In reality, this means that salt harms our intelligence. Likewise, it can cause drug-like symptoms i.e. chronic abstinence syndrome.
  • Refined grains:  A single grain does not affect our intelligence: it is whole grain, rich in fiber and used to prevent aging.
If you eat refined grains (like white flour), you are more likely to experience mental confusion or memory loss.
  • Processed proteins: This group includes cold meats, especially industrial products such as sausages and salami. These proteins do not isolate the nervous system, on the contrary, they activate it too much.
The same thing then happens in the brain. You can no longer maintain your focus on a task, and you have difficulty responding effectively to what is asked of you.
  • Processed fats: These fats also produce cholesterol, cause obesity and certain heart problems.
They make our brain slower, which logically affects the quality of responses or reflexes when we speak or when we drive. They also increase the risk of stroke.
If you consume it for a long enough period of time, your brain will start to function as if you have Alzheimer’s disease. Our mind capacity will be reduced.
  • Artificial Sweeteners: Sweeteners are often thought to be better than sugar, especially when dieting to lose weight. However, this is a mistake.
It is true that sweeteners have no calories, but they can be counterproductive for our body. If taken for a long time, they can cause brain damage and slow down our cognitive abilities.
