6 Natural Treatments To Fight Colitis

Colitis is a disorder that occurs when the large intestine, also known as the colon, becomes inflamed.

This can be due to a viral infection or parasites, or even food infections, inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal system, and the reaction to certain medications.

Because of the symptoms, some confuse it with Crohn’s disease, but the difference is that it continually extends from the rectum to a varying portion of the colon.

Conversely, in Crohn’s disease, inflammation can affect any part of the digestive system.

Some natural drinks can be helpful in relieving this condition,  but sometimes its severity requires the use of medication and the administration of intravenous fluids.

What are the symptoms of colitis?

The discomforts a person experiences from colitis can vary depending on the severity of the disorder.

Preparation

  • Put the spoonful of flax seeds in a glass of water, let stand for 12 hours and consume the liquid the next day on an empty stomach.

2. Rice water

Rice is a food rich in fiber, which acts as a tranquilizer on the intestinal lining, thus improving conditions such as colitis.

  • 1 cup of rice (185 g)
  • 3 cups of water (750 ml)

Preparation

  • Heat the three cups of water in a saucepan with the cup of rice and let the decoction for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Then strain the liquid to separate it from the rice and let cool.
  • Drink the resulting water twice a day, every day.
  • Consume until colitis is cured.

3. Aloe vera gel juice

Aloe vera gel has healthy properties to regulate the intestinal flora and relieve ulcer problems.

It is rich in fiber and helps relieve inflammation and relieve digestive and intestinal disorders. 

Ingredients

  • 1 aloe vera leaf
  • ½ glass of water (100 ml)

Preparation

  • Extract the gel that is in the aloe vera leaf and mix it with half a glass of water.
  • Optionally, you can add a little lemon juice and honey.
  • Take this remedy on an empty stomach for at least two weeks in a row.
  • Avoid taking it excessively as it is laxative.

4. Chamomile tea

  • 1 teaspoon of chamomile flowers (10 g)
  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)

Preparation

  • Put the chamomile flowers in a cup and add a cup of boiling water.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes, filter and consume.
  • You can take it up to three times a day, every day.

5. Coconut water

This natural drink contains essential nutrients that fight against dehydration and several pathologies of the immune and digestive system.

It is a source of mineral salts, vitamins and fibers, the action of which relieves ulcerative colitis and diseases associated with stomach fragility. 

Ingredients

  • 1 glass of fresh coconut water (200 ml)

Preparation

  • Fresh coconut water is extracted from green coconuts. Take a glass of the liquid, preferably on an empty stomach.

6. Guava juice

One of the most fiber-rich fruits is guava. This food regulates bowel movement and supports recovery from colitis while providing a feeling of relief.

  • 5 ripe guavas
  • 1 liter of water

Preparation

  • Wash the ripe guavas, cut them and put them in the blender with the liter of water.

  • Add the two spoonfuls of honey and drink two glasses a day.
